JaBiHuEU and Mediacentar Sarajevo launch "Go Digital Against Harassment"

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the safety of journalists and protection of media freedom in Bosnia and Herzegovina by raising awareness of key stakeholders about online threats against journalists.

Project "Go Digital Against Harassment", that will be jointly implemented by JABiHuEU and Foundation Mediacentar Sarajevo, aims to map the problem of online threats and abuse of  journalists in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to increase capacities of media professionals to protect themselves from online abuse, strengthen cooperation between media, CSO sector and relevant institutions on protection of journalists from online abuse, and to inform the public about the problem of online abuse and threats toward journalists.

Reports indicate that there is still no specific data for Bosnia and Herzegovina (or the region) related to numbers of these attacks, their effect on the journalists, or reactions from the relevant institutions. Additional problem with online threats and harassment is lack of adequate legal protection mechanisms. The project ‘’Go Digital Against Harassment’’ is based on OSCE recommendations, focusing on raising public awareness, collecting relevant data on national level, and strengthening capacities of local CSOs and journalists in taking more active part in fighting online violence against journalists.

Therefore, the project will also include publishing a comprehensive report with data on online threats against journalists and an online manual for journalists on how to protect from and react to online threats

The project is supported by the European Union.

This project is funded by the European Union through the small grants programme “Protecting Media Freedom and Freedom of Expression in the Western Balkans” implemented by the Croatian Journalists’ Association as part of the regional project Western Balkan’s Regional Platform for Advocating Media Freedom and Journalists’ Safety, carried out through partnership of six regional journalists’ associations – Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (IJAS), Association of BH Journalists (BHJ), Croatian Journalists’ Association (CJA), Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK), Association of Journalists of Macedonia (AJM) and the Trade Union of Media of Montenegro (TUMM).
