Public debate: On-line activism

Public debate: On-line activism
Mediacenter Sarajevo invites you for a public debate on
ON–LINE ACTIVISM
NEW METHODES FOR NEW REVOLUTIONS!
May14th (Thursday), 6.00 pm, Mediacenter Sarajevo
Internet becomes inevitable in the proces of strengthening civil activism. From 'Indymedia' through activist web portals, blogs and forums, to Facebook - the virtual world is used to spread out information, organise campaignes, and mobilise people for actions. Web portals in Bosnia and Herzegovina have showed their importance during civil protests organized last year in Sarajevo anent Denis Mrnjavac's murder.
Does the virtual world offer new posibilities for citizens to express their thoughts or does it capture them, after some time, in virtual ghettos? How much does the Internet influence civil activism? What are the advantages and what are the constraints of on-line activism? Does the internet and to which extent, contribute to the development of BH activism? What are the most important on-line activist campaignes?
We are discussing these and many other issues with our guests – Arne Hintz, program director of the Center for media and communication studies at the Central European University in Budapest; Lejla Turčilo, master and assistant at the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo; Berina Hamzić i Darijan Bilić, activist of organization 'Citizens Action' from Sarajevo.
